Trying to maintain loss in an obesogenic environment
During weight gain your body has biological changes. Those changes make weight loss difficult, especially when combined with an 'obesogenic environment'. As you can read here the biology of your body wants you to gain weight back, but a large issue is sometimes the environment you live and work.
A person that had lost weight often is given support, but this will dwindle while you try to maintain that loss, and in fact co-workers, friends, family and society at large will insist you ‘relax’. During the maintenance phase, it’s of vital importance to continue the restriction, as weight gain in this timeline is easy and fast (thus the very high failure rate of obese individuals).
This can often extend to families and partners, creating an environment for you to gain weight again.
“‘Obesogenic environment’ an environment that promotes obesity . Schools, workplaces, homes and neighbourhoods, the media, availability of convenience foods, and portion sizes can all influence a person’s body weight”
The primary change in your body is Leptin resistance. If your body has told you that you are hungry (even starving) when you were in fact gaining weight, you may have Leptin resistance
Read More About Leptin below - or read here the most effective weight loss methods. Regardless of how or why a person has gained body fat, science describes it as ‘maladaptive’ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9796811/.
Leptin when a person is a healthy weight, tells a person to stop eating. In obese persons, you become Leptin resistant, and you feel hungry, even when your body does not need calories.
Put simply, for many overweight persons your brain doesn't "hear" the leptin message, even if there's plenty of it. This makes your brain think you're starving, even if you have enough fat stored. So, your brain tries to make you eat more and store more fat, because it thinks you need it.
